in-network therapy services

We are in-network preferred providers for CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

Please contact your CareFirst provider to ensure that Mosaic Therapy Services, LLC is in-network for your plan, determine your co-pay for mental health services, and ask about any deductible requirements.

out-of-network therapy services

what you need to know

If you do not have CareFirst BCBS, are working with an out-of-network provider, or would prefer not to use your insurance provider for reasons of privacy, like most therapists in the DC metropolitan area, we are considered fee-for-service providers.

What this means is that you will pay for each session with your choice  of credit card, health saving account (HSA), check, or cash.

If you have out-of-network insurance coverage (for example, a PPO insurance plan) you will then submit your “Superbill” to them showing what you have paid out of pocket.

After you have met your annual deductible, your insurance company will mail a check directly to you, reimbursing you anywhere from 50–80% of our fees (which means your out-of-pocket expense is often the equivalent to average in-network co-pays).

Although you can submit your out of network claims directly to your insurance company, there are companies (not affiliated with this practice) that will submit your claims for you for a fee, simplifying and expediting the process.

If you have an HMO type plan with an insurance company other than CareFirst BCBS, they will not reimburse you for our fees. To use benefits associated with HMO plans you need to seek treatment from an in-network provider (we are currently not in-network with any insurance companies other than CareFirst BCBS).

what you should ask

If you are out-of-network, insurance companies will not share information with me about your policy. If you have questions about your out-of-network mental health care coverage or reimbursement, please contact your insurance provider member services for clarification—it may be helpful to ask some of the following questions:

  • Do I have any out-of-network benefits for mental/behavioral health services?
  • Do I need a referral to see an out-of-network provider?
  • Do I need a treatment plan to get sessions authorized?
  • Is approval required from my primary care physician?
  • How many sessions per year will be covered?
  • What is my deductible and has it been met?
  • What is the coverage or “allowed amount” per therapy session?
  • How much will be covered per session?
  • Will my covered amount change based on the number of sessions?
  • How do I submit claims?
  • How long do claims take to get processed and when can I expect reimbursement?

good faith estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.

You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
