Altered book making is a mixed-media project that transforms old, unloved books into unique works of art! As a type of narrative art therapy, they can provide a safe container to process emotions that can then simply be folded shut and put away once complete. Often, altered books are used to explore a particular theme or question, though they can just as easily serve as a personal art journal. Regardless of how they are implemented, altered books are an infinitely customizable DIY project that can quickly become a new passion!
In this 3-part series participants will learn how to create the “bones” of an altered book in addition to several popular techniques. It is encouraged that individuals attend all three sessions of this series, as the first session will focus primarily on altered book construction. Each session will include time for discussion should participants like to share their work or experience.
